Lieutenant General Ashok Shivane is a highly decorated officer with immense operational and strategic planning experience and expertise spread over four decades in uniform. A scholar warrior he has three post-graduation degrees in Defence and Strategic studies besides several other civilian educational qualifications. His experience includes serving in UN peacekeeping operations as a Military Observer and has also been instrumental in the training of foreign armies.

The General Officer has contributed immensely to the Indian Defence Force's strategic planning and future capability building including his tenure as Additional Director General Perspective Planning and Defence Space. He has also been a techno warrior who has been at the forefront of futuristic capability building like C5ISR and Space domains.

He was awarded by the President of India, PVSM (2017), AVSM (2016), & VSM (2009) for distinguished service of the highest order. Subsequently, he was bestowed the honour of being nominated Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the President of India in July 2017 in recognition of his distinguished services.

The General as a distinguished speaker and prolific writer on geopolitics, international security and conflicts, and defence matters including technology and leadership is renowned nationally and internationally. He has chaired and been a keynote speaker at several international and national seminars.  He is an acclaimed defence analyst who has over 150 publications to his credit and five books including a recent one on future military training – ‘Professional Military Training: Making of the 21st Century Warrior’, which has been amongst the national and international top best sellers in its category. He has been at the forefront of suggesting policy reforms and long-term restructuring strategies and chaired several seminal studies for the Indian Army.

General Ashok Shivane post-retirement was a Consultant to the Ministry of Defence (Ordnance Factory Board) on defence production issues from 2018 to 2020.  The General Officer is presently a Senior Defence Advisor / Member Board of Governors to several National and International Think Tanks and Defence Magazines, besides Global Legal Innovation Advisory, Drive Safe India, Environment NGO, Care of Special and underprivileged children, and the Hospitality Industry. He is also a board member of the International Human Rights Advisory Council. He has recently been appointed Vice Chairman India of the National Council of News and Broadcasting by the International Media Advisory Council and the Senior Advisor Board Member and Executive Director to UNAccc. He is also the Chief Security Advisor to the Board of Governors, Economic Council of India, and Strategic Advisor to the Central Association of Private Security India (CAPSI).
